Pregnancy and Parenting Services
Pathway of Hope formulates treatment plans for all residents based upon their case history and current needs.  The following is an outline of the services available to expectant and/or teenage mothers that are residents at Pathway.

  • “Teen Love and Logic” parenting classes.  These classes are ten weeks long and are taught by certified Love and Logic instructors.
  • WIC and Maternal Support Services.  These programs are made available through the local Health Department.  WIC offers coupons for free formula for the baby as well as coupons for free milk, eggs, cheese, cereal, and juice for the mothers.  One-on-one parenting education and in-home visits are also a part of these services.
  • “Early Success Right From the Start.”  This is offered through the local HEAD START program and is contingent on funding.  It offers one-on-one parenting education in the home or at school.
  • Although all of the staff interact with the babies/children and mothers, Pathway provides each expectant or teen mother with a staff mentor.  This person goes to all OB/GYN and pediatric appointments, Lamaze classes with the mother, and attends the delivery if wanted.
  • Pathway staff closely monitors the interaction between mother and child to ensure that it is appropriate and to offer advice.
  • Mothers are required to keep a log book of diaper changes, bottle feedings and/or meals, and nap/sleep schedule.  The mothers are educated on the importance of children keeping a consistent schedule.
  • The mother’s bedroom offers a crib or toddler bed, changing table, and rocking chair.
  • The staff assist the mothers with establishing a licensed child caring facility for day care during school and/or work hours.  The staff also assist with the mothers applying and maintaining financial assistance for child care through DHS.
  • Pathway provides transportation to all medical, parenting, WIC, and DHS appointments.

After Care Services & Referrals To:
Because of the increase in numbers of youth in crises, the After Care program goal is to help our residents cope with the major issues they face after they are discharged.  The focus of the visits will be to provide guidelines, set limits, settle disputes, provide encouragement, use incentives, help with job searches, and provide a more stable transition back into their communities.

Pathway of Hope is convinced that we can help minimize the potential reoccurrences of wrong choices.  It is our objective to be another support to the juvenile's probation officer and/or DHS worker.  With the additional accountability and mentoring, we believe that she will have a greater chance of success.

Pathway of Hope Will...

  • Make a 30, 60 90 day visit after discharge.  These visits may be altered if necessary based upon individual situations.
  • Meet with family members as needed and make them aware of any new information.
  • Visit all schools, homes, job sites and any other location to meet with the prior resident.
  • Stay in contact with all assigned workers and attorneys regarding the prior resident.
  • Perform any drug screens if requested by workers.  There must be a court order given to the follow-up worker for this request.
  • Document all activity when visiting prior residents.
